4. Apoplexy involving the collaterals—light cases
Manifestations: fever, aversion to cold, deviation of mouth and eyes, muscular paralysis of the half face, driveling, tearing, and difficult chewing.
Acupoints: Shuigou (DU 26), Chengjiang (RN 24), Dicang (ST 4), Xiache (ST 6), Quanliao (SI 18), Yangbai (GB 14), Sibai (ST 2), Daying (ST 5) and Hegu (LI 4). Needling healthy side.
5. Apoplexy involving the collaterals—severe cases 
Manifestations: deviation of the mouth seriously, salivation, failure of smoking and drinking, eyes can not close, tearing, numbness of half of face, deviation of tongue tip, glabella wrinkles disappearing.
Acupoints: penetration needling Yangbai (GB 14) and Yuyao (EX-HN 4), Sibai (ST 2) and Chengqi (ST 1), Taiyang (EX-HN 5) and Quanliao (SI 18), Cuanzhu (SL 2) and Sizhukong (SJ 23), Dicang (ST 4) and Xiache (ST 6), Kouheliao (LI 19) and Juliao (ST 3); Quchi (LI 11), Hegu (LI 4), Lieque (LU 7).
6. Apoplexy involving the meridians—light cases 
Manifestations: heaviness in head, numbness of half of the body, walking obliquely or hemiplegia.
Acupoints: Quchi (LI 11), Neiguan (PC 6), Hegu (LI 4), Yanglingquan (GB 34), Zusanli (ST 36), Sanyinjiao (SP 6), needling healthy side and then affected side, with reinforcing method firstly, then with reducing method.
7. Apoplexy involving the meridians—severe cases
Manifestations: dizziness, red face and eyes, slurred speech or hemiplegia.
Acupoints: Baihui (DU 20), Fengfu (DU 16), Fengchi (GB 20), Jianjing (GB 21), Jianyu (LI 15), Quchi (LI 11), Hegu (LI 4), Lieque (LU 7), Huantiao (GB 30), Weizhong (BL 40), Yanglingquan (GB 34), Xuanzhong (GB 39), Qiuxu (GB 40), Taichong (LR 3), needling affected side, with reducing method firstly, then with reinforcing method.

The two series of acupoints are used alternatively, and retain the needles for 30 min.
