Acupuncture training online: acupuncture treatment of urine retention

Urine retention known as Longbi in traditional Chinese medicine is an acute clinical disorder of urinary department. Acupuncture therapy can achieve satisfactory therapeutic result for uroschesis.
A typical case
Ms Wu , 28 year old, a hospitalized parturient suffered from urinary retention for 13 hours after delivery of baby with low abdominal distension. She was seen with pale complexion, listlessness, lassitude, short breath, and spoke in low voice. Her complaints were tenesmus sensation in the lower abdomen, urinary distress and aversion to cold. Examination showed pale tongue with thin white fur, deep, thready and weak pulse, particularly in the Chi (kidney) region. Her qi and blood were consumed much due to delivery and her primordial qi was impaired, and thus Qugu (CV 2) and Zhaohai (KI 6, bilateral) were punctured and stimulated with reinforcing needling method. The needles were retained 20 minutes, meanwhile re-manipulated again 4 times. Two minutes after the removal of needle, the patient urinated voluntarily 800 ml.
Urine retention, thea acute disorder makes the patient suffer much. In Western medicine it is usually managed with catheterization, which is a symptomatic treatment regarded by traditional Chinese medicine, as the root cause of the disorder is not dealt with. Repeated catheterization tends to injure the urethra. Acupuncture at Qugu (CV 2) and Zhaohai(KI 6) for urinary retention is a simple and effective therapy well accepted by patients. Qugu (CV 2) located in lower abdomen has the function of reinforcing kidney kidney-qi; Zhaohai(KI 6 ), one of the 8 confluent points when needled in combination with Qugu (CV 2) may strengthen kidney-qi and replenish the kidney-yang. In traditional Chinese medicine the normal urination relies on smooth circulation of qi in the triple energizer, which is maintained by functional coordination of the lung, spleen and kidney. Among the three, kidney dominates water, bearing an interior and exterior relationship with the bladder and governs urination and bowel movement. When kidney-qi functions well, the opening and closing of the bladder is normal (urination remains normal). Clinically, urine retention of either deficiency or excessive syndrome pattern is attributed to impairment of the kidney-qi which is the fundamental cause of the problem. For any syndrome patterns of the disorder, acupuncture at Qugu (CV 2) and Zhaohai (KI 6) may be applied
The deficiency syndrome pattern uroschesis should be treated with reinforcing needling method and the excessive syndrome pattern may be treated with reducing needling method. Generally, the therapy introduced herein is convenient and effective in clinical practice,
