The astringent function of Qi
Qi can prevent the blood, body fluid and other fluids from flowing away. It means that the qi controls the blood to prevent it from flowing out of the blood vessels; it can also control the sweating, urine, nasal discharge, saliva and stomach fluid, intestine fluid and sperm.
If the defending function of qi is weak, the large amount of the body fluids will get lost, the symptoms such as bleeding, incontinence and seminal emission will occur.
The astringent and promoting functions of qi are counter-acting and inter-assisting. Qi promotes the circulation of blood, the distribution and the secretion of body fluids; qi controls the fluids in the body and prevent them from flowing away abnormally. This two functions of the qi work together to maintain the normal circulation, secretion and discharging of the fluids in the body.
