牛蒡子 Niubangzi
Fructus Arctii

【Source】
  Source is from the fruit of Arctum lappa L., family Compositae.


【Properties】
  Pungent and bitter in flavor, cold in nature, attributive to lung and stomach meridians.


【Actions】
  Expel wind and heat, let out the skin eruption, ease the throat, remove toxic materials and dissipate nodules.


【Application】
 1. Niubangzi is used for exterior syndrome of wind and heat type with sore and swollen throat.
 2. For unsmooth eruption of measles.
                    3. For carbuncle or pyogenic infection of the skin and mumps, especially suitable for th e carbuncle due to either wind-heat in the interior accompanied  with constipation.
